Movie Makers

NEW!! Mikey's Movie Makers (Pilot course)
Fridays 2-4pm
Media is probably the world's most culturally, socially and economically influential industry.
Making movies is more than just media - it's 'telling a story' and that is a cool skill to learn.
You can start making movies at home with your own camera but like many things it's 'better together'!

Some of the skills:
-
Videography - handling a camera
-
Audio - capturing the sounds
-
Acting - performing a role
-
Storyboarding - planning the movie scene by scene
-
Directing - artistic ideas, themes and style
-
Music - emotions!
-
Foley making sound effects) - engaging the senses for hightened reality
-
Editing - the all important skill - decide what to cut or keep to get the message across
-
Publishing . . .

How we present ourselves and ideas affects our life opportunities.
Telling the story keeps people interested, engages and entertained.
Most people record video on phones these days but few turn these files into productions
Fewer people use multiple camera angles, sound tracks and consider their viewer.

At T&S we make loads of movies, we have decent equipment and software and the time has come to train a small group in the skills and disciplines of movie making.

We have a range of visual and audio equipment as well as computers and software for processing. You have lots of ideas and the enthusiasm to capture, process and communicate your ideas.

You will need to be familiar with a computer mouse - just now this is the main way that we can tell a computer what we want it to do and most media is processed on computers . . .

However, other skills we will develop are script writing, promotion, camera and audio skills props making, directing . . even acting.

We'll study how the camera needs to be operated in order to wow the viewer and not confuse them. We'll make audio recordings - yes audio is a huge proportion of the content of a movie. We'll look at animation and digital effects - don't expect a full Harry Potter movie production but we can make a start!

Some of the content will be based on technology you may have at home such as your own cameras /software. It makes sense for your to use this. We also have some pretty professional kit that you wont have at home.

A key feature of this course is the use of older tech Mini DV /HD camcorders which are ergonomically very similar to professional video cameras but without too many buttons to press. Tripods, lighting, sound and props all feature in movie making which is a team sport. Each student gets the opportunity to try each skill and make their own 'director's cut'!This will be fun!
