Based on flight we explore flight without reference to aircraft to start with. We dont talk about air going faster over the top than the bottom (Bernoulli principle - which is actually still debated in the industry!) - we look at Newton's third law of motion and understand flight from basic principles.
This can be done with small squares of card, scissors and tape. No knives etc.
All theory is demonstrated in practice which is essential for the more critical thinkers amongst us.
Ideally you will invest in a gravity launcher.
All of your participants will grasp the basic principles of flight.
Some will want to take it further with our glider range that develops into a variety of airframe configurations - without thinking about real planes, Spitfires etc !
Some will then want to explore Aeroschool UK - this is where you can start a small club. All resources online. Meetups and visits to museums and eventually collaborative projects.

During the summer season 2024, our T&S Bus attended all of Shuttleworth's centenary events.
While we ran the Aerolution activity in our huge awnings, OWMAC (Old Warden Model Aero Club ran the Aeroscale glider extravaganza. Average engagement time for youngsters was 30 mins, some staying and returning for more during the day/weekend. This potential to publish the challenge ahead of an event would encourage family members to attend to see their youngster pit against all comers.
Challenge
Many children worked tirelessly to make their creations perform stunts. In this way you can identify potential engineering talent in your local community.
Design Service
Our design service (FOC subject to orders of gliders) can create flying gliders of your key exhibits. Plus merchandise for your shop and gift packs for other achievements.
Ecology
Cardboard based - all materials biodegradable. Typically £2.50 per unit.
Can be painted, coloured

PAYLOAD PAL
These resources are designed to enable you to get a team to the BMFA payload challenges.
-
Using our Aerolution curriculum you can teach a group about flight with very little expertise yourself.
-
For larger aircraft you will eventually need to access a model flying club or certificated RC pilot to test your designs but lots of work can be achieved before this.
-
Round The Pole can be done in a sports hall so you can test powered flight of your concepts before going full RC.
-
We scale up our concepts is such a way as demonstrates the issues with scaling dimensions, areas and volumes.
-
Our Payload Pal kits enable you to build and adjust your airframes before deciding on a final geometry. They are designed to break safely if they crash so you spend little time repairing them before trying again.
Payload Pal is suitable for BMFA challenges 1-3. Watch our own developmental flights here
1. Egg (3 Medium sized eggs)
2. Cube (4 Rubik's cubes)
3. Distance. (Block of wood)
4. Polystyrene Spheres
These aircraft can be made from sheet card/polystyrene/depron/correx/foamboard/balsawood as we have proved in the past.
