Senior Aeronauts 12+

Wednesdays 10.30am -1.30pm

3 Hour sessions plus (recommended) home prep.

And occasional non compulsory Zoom from home with our collaborators! 5pm

This facilitates a silver CREST award for your reserach into an aspect of flight of your choice subject to your own private study regimes! You will need to organise yourself - we recommend MIRO - which we use in the lessons for group collaboration.

You will use CAD CAM software. Once again we can provide a student license of the very powerful TechSoft 2DDesign as used in many schools because it is not www based and acommodates graphic bitmaps as well as vector drawing.

3D CAD software - and again we use an ancient program called ProDesktop 2000i2. Don't laugh - it's very intuitive and heaps better to learn with than many of the alternatives. You can have something 3D printed in very little time from a very low spec computer.

Aeroschool is rich in STEM content. During this course we focus on the BMFA Distance challenge in making a RC plane and making to fly as fast as possible. If you've done that in a previous year you get to make a Quantity plane! You will use the www to research and various tools to calculate aspects of your design. We fly as often as possible so ideally you will fly your own plane and possibly the challenge plane at the challenges. You may add to your studies by making a plane at home from our inexpensive kit range and flying it on our site to gain your CAA license.

This course follows on from Junior Aeronauts who will have made lots of gliders and explored various ways of making. Don't worry if you are new to aero topics or a mid-term inclusion - you can easily catch up if you are keen enough!

This course covers much content at KS 4 and 5 D&T!!

Our sessions take up to six students
